There is nothing more wonderful than the freedom, adventure and fun of childhood. We value our own memories of childhood adventures and exploration. Yet, today, it seems more than ever that we should be aware of where our children are, who is around them and teaching them how to keep themselves from danger.
The internet has an amazing mass of information. You can google almost any topic. One that I came across, when looking at care related matters and safety for people with disabilities was about children and stranger danger.
How there are programs available that help identify children who may be more at risk than others to be caught up talking to a stranger and then be in a vunerable situation.
This type of stranger danger training is designed to identify behavoir in children that may be vunerable and to teach them strategies to stay safe.
There is protection from child abuse and bullying. The type of protection I wish to expand upon is where a child may be approached by a stranger and they attempt to coax a child away from safety etc.
These videos are an excellent introduction to child predator safety. There are some fantastic courses that are carried out that you can source privately or via some some school programs.
The message that seems most important is dont leave your young children unattended in public places. Talk to your children about stranger danger and make sure they are aware and understand what you are wanting them to understand.
You could also choose people for them to go to if they are unsure of a situation.
Many suburbs now have neighbourhood watch programs and safety houses. Make your children aware of these. Mobile phones and camera phones are also great protection as children can hold these when talking or dial you directly.

Izzy, I dont know the answer to that one. I agree that they shouldnt work with children etc, yet I suppose it is up to trusting the experts to guide us through these difficult cases as often abusers have been abused etc..
I do a bit of energy work around this and mentally send the message if I pick up perpetrator vibrations of how to change thinking patterns. To recognize unhealthy thinking and how to change it.
With stranger danger, it is making children aware that it is good to have freedom, yet you also need to be aware of your surroundings and the ways people who may have other objectives can trick a child. Thats what the dog exercise is about - and alot of schools and programs teach children via this method so they can pick up if the child is vunerable and teach them how not to be.

I wish to note here that I find these videos enlightening. I would though be very aware of the possible effects of such a role play and only participate in something well designed, well orientated to promote child safety, as I would not wish to create any unforseen outcomes for children by putting them into any traumatic situation.

Good message you have here and well-written article! But I think we should take those people in society who want to harm children away from the child, not the other way round. When they come out of jail they should be sent to a remote island or somewhere, anywhere that they can't come into contact with children. As you say, childhood is a time for freedom and adventure.
